Becoming a Stronger Disciple
HOW A DISCIPLE ERRORS
I want to avoid errors that cause great loss in my walk with the Lord.
(Mark 12:1-12) He then
began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall
around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented
the vineyard to some farmers and went away on a journey. At harvest time he
sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the
vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Then he
sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him
shamefully. He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many
others; some of them they beat; others they killed. He had one left to send, a
son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, ‘They will respect my
son.’ But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill
him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ So they took him and killed him, and threw
him out of the vineyard. What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will
come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. Haven’t you read
this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the
Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” Then they looked for a
way to arrest Him because they knew He had spoken the parable against them. But
they were afraid of the crowd; so they left Him and went away.
1. The
Error of Assuming Ownership
A. God owns my life!
B. I wonder how God feels when I try to
steal my life from Him?
2. The
Error of Assuming Authority
A. I want to give God authority over my fruit.
B. I want to yield to the authority of His prophets.
(1 John 4:1) Dear friends,
do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they
are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
C. I want to yield to the authority of
His Son – Jesus.
3. The
Error of Assuming Escape
(9) “What then will the
owner of the vineyard do? He will come
and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.”
A. I will be held accountable for my
actions.
(Galatians 6: 7-8) Do not be deceived:
God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what
he sows. The one who sows to please his
sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to
please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
B. I will not escape the consequences
of my actions.
4. Error
of Assuming Arrogance
(10-11) “Haven’t you
read this scripture: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become
the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our
eyes’?”
(12) Then
they looked for a way to arrest Him because they knew He had spoken the parable
against them.
A. Do you know what I’m guilty of? Arrogance.
B. It’s not about me – it’s about
Jesus!
C. I will always lower myself - in
order to exalt my Jesus!
