STRAIGHT-THINKING POLITICS

As a disciple of Jesus – I’ll want to vote like Jesus.

(John 2:12-17) After this He went down to Capernaum with His mother and brothers and His disciples. There they stayed for a few days.  When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts He found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.  So He made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.  To those who sold doves He said, “Get these out of here!  How dare you turn My Father’s house into a market!” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will consume Me.”

1.         I Will Let People Know What I Stand Against

(Leviticus 19:30) “Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary.  I am the Lord.”

            A.            Jesus is against all sin.

            B.            How do I take a stand against sin?

                        *            Jesus said it – then He showed it.

                        *            I will note it – then I’ll vote it.

            C.            Abortion is not a choice – it is murder!

            D.            Homosexuality is not an alternate and equal life style, it's rebellion against God!

2.         I Will Let People Know What I Stand For

A.            17 describes Jesus as having a "Zeal" for the things of God.

(Luke 2:49) “Why were you searching for Me?” He said.  “Didn’t you know I had to be in My Father’s house?”

(John 4:34) “My food”, Jesus said, “is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.”

(John 9:4) “As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent Me.  Night is coming, when no one can work.”

            B.            Jesus was very concerned about the will of God being done in the world around Him.

            C.            He had the courage to let people know exactly what he stood for.

            D.            Do I have the courage to stand up with Jesus?

(Exodus 20:13) “You shall not murder.”

                        *            Stand up for the protection of children’s lives FIRST; and their welfare SECOND.

                        *            Stand up for abstinence and marital fidelity as the only remedy for the spread of AIDS.

                        *            Stand up for a return to traditional family values as a priority.

                        *            Stand up for voluntary prayer in schools.

3.         I Will Let People Know WHO I Represent!

            A.            I really want to remind people of Jesus.

            B.            Jesus invites me to stand with Him.

(Mark 8:34) “If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.”

(Philippians 2:5) Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.

            C.            Jesus invites me to wear His yoke.

(Matthew 11:28) “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you..."

            D.            Let’s let people know we represent Jesus this Tuesday.

(2:25) He did not need man’s testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.
