Our Church History

In 1972, Pflugerville was beginning to grow and no Southern Baptist church existed to meet the spiritual needs of the community.  In October 1972, First Baptist Church of Round Rock, elected to lay

the cornerstone of faith for Pflugerville Baptist Mission.  In May 1973, the mission began and the first service was held June 17,

1973 in Pfluger Fire Hall.

The small mission grew quickly and in August of that same year,

land at Pfluger Street & 10th Street was purchased.  That December, First Baptist Church of Round Rock voted to underwrite a building program, and by the following July of 1974, the first of many buildings was dedicated to the Lord.

Only fourteen months later, September 26, 1976, and with 101 members, Pflugerville Baptist Mission was constituted as Pflugerville Baptist Church.  Shortly thereafter an education building was needed and in October 1979, what is now the preschool building was completed, debt free.

In June of 1984, the growing congregation needed a new sanctuary which was completed in April, 1985.  On July 10 of that year, Pflugerville Baptist Church became First Baptist Church of Pflugerville.  As the congregation continued to grow, a two-story education building was finished in January, 1987, which included classrooms and a fellowship hall.

The church purchased additional land across the street from the original facility in November of 1992, a multi-purpose worship center was completed in March of 1998.  Our church congregation has continued to grow, and we are now planning for our next phase of growth.  We have a design for a new worship & education facility.  Below is an artist's rendering of our proposed Worship Center.

Our Ministerial Staff is comprised of Dr. Steve Washburn, Senior Pastor, Mike Northen, Associate Pastor of Education & Administration, Daniel Roucloux, Associate Pastor of Worship & Senior Adults, David Hill, Minister

of Adult Education, Tom Cottar, Minister to Students, Stan Burnett, Media Minister and Steve Howe, Student Ministry Associate.

The First Baptist Church family takes to heart its mission statement:  We Joyfully and Actively Love God, Our Community and Each Other with Perseverance and Single-Mindedness.  Land and buildings may be significant to some, but the true legacy and importance of FBC in the community is in the lives of the people who have been transformed by the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you  may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light."  (1 Peter 2:9)
